THE FIRST KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF CONTEMPORARY CHAMBER MUSIC 

 

The first edition of the Krzysztof Penderecki International Festival of Contemporary Chamber Music was held from 29th July 1997 to 1st August 1997 in Krakow and was received with very good press reviews. There were over 70 musicians who took part in elimination to the contest.

To the final Jury in :

Elena Braslavsky (USA),
Orit Orbach (Israel),
Marta Ptaszyńska (USA),
Robert Kabara (Poland).

admitted 22 musicians (soloists and ensembles). The prizes were awarded in fourth categories. The Jury and critics recognised the level of the competition to be very high. 

The Gala Concert of The First Krzystof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Cracow took place on 1 August 1997 r. in Cracow Philharmonic Hall. About 750 auditors came to listen to the spectacular performance of prize-winners. Young artists enchanted the audience and a special guest performer was a clarinettist and a jurist of the first edition of the competition - Orit Orbach. The Gala Concert was reordered by the Polish TV Polonia.

Special Prize for the best performance of a Polish composition was awarded to:
Hanna Holeksa (piano) i Dawid Smykowski (bassoon)  for the performance of the Aleksander Tansman's Suite for Basson and Piano composition.

 

Special Prize for the best interpretation of a Polish composition: 
Quartet DAFO for "III Quartet" by Marek Stachowski. 

Prizes were sponsored by CENTERTEL.
