The Eight International Competition of Contemporary Chamber In Cracow
Auditions were held on the 3 - 4 September 2004 in "Florianka" Hall of The Academy of Music in Cracow. This year the Jury including: Marek Stachowski (Chairman), Paul Patterson, Vadim Brodski, Geoffrey Douglas Madge, Jan Pilch audited 46 participants from 11 countries - 10 soloists, 10 duos, 3 trios, 2 quartets.
The Final Concert of the Eight International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music was held on 5 September at 7.00 p.m. in Philharmonic Hall in Cracow. During the Concert the winners of the first prizes from each category (soloists, duos, trios, quartets) performed and from that group the laureate of Grand Prix was selected. The statuettes were handed to winners by Waldemar D±browski - Minister of Culture, Jacek Majchrowski - Mayor of the City of Cracow and Prof. Marek Stachowski - Chairman of the Jury.
The Grand Prix was won by Israel Contemporary String Quartet from Israel: Hadas Fabrikant, Tali Goldberg, Galia Hai, Hilla Epstein.
The concert was attended by world-famous fiddler Vadim Brodski - he performed with accompaniment of jazz trios including: Konstantin Vilensky (piano), Jakub Olejnik (double-bass), Marcin Jahr (percussion).
The Eight International Competition of Contemporary Chamber was attended by such dignified persons as: Minister of Culture, representants of Ministry of Education and Sport, Marshal of Voivodship of Malopolskie, Cracow Province Governor, Mayor of the City of Cracow, consuls and representatives of sponsors and patrons.
The Competition was advertised in media, notices and announcements were also published in TVP 3 (Polish Television, Cracow), TVP 1 (Polish Television) Dziennik Polski (Polish Daily), Radio Kraków (Cracow Radio), RMF Classic and on different Internet sites i.e. PAP (Polish Press Agency).
The mission of the Competition aims at young talents promotion, worldwide popularization of Polish contemporary music but also young artists' career creation.
Every year several dozen of soloists and groups are qualified to final step of the Competition, they are audited and assessed by the world-famous musicians and composers. The Competition's idea is broadly supported by environments of musicians, what is proved by growing number of foreign participant.
